Artist's Comments

It's a Very Fine Day for a post, isn't it?
I'd probably have been better off drawing Voracious Frozen Dragonflies.

so...if you don't get what this is now, then you're either not a fan, or didn't get far enough in the series.

I just re-read the Series of unfortunate Events (because I had never gotten to read the last two, and I'd forgotten everything that came before them), and wow. Just wow! The series was absolutely beautiful. Fun, quick wiriting style, with strong, deep morals. Its questioning of the blurred line between right and wrong in the Baudelaires was far more than I would have ever expected, and goodness me, the series was horrificly dark!

There are so many things I want to talk about in this artist's comment, but I know that I was fortunate enough to read the last two books unspoiled, and I would like to extend that courtesy to any of you who might be reading or contemplating reading the series.

by my tastes, the book was very nearly perfect.
And the illustrator, Brett Helquest, is just amazing. I love his work! :D

.....AND they just released the news a few days ago that they plan to make a STOP MOTION sequal to the first movie they came out with in 2004. if the sequal does well enough, they'll make more movies--all in a different medium.
now that's cool.

So I'm still in the geeking-out mode about the books, and I'm just sad that since the publishing of the last book, all of the online forums for the series have died down quite a bit. I've only really been able to discuss the series with one person.
Anyways, I drew this on the plane on the way home from New York. I had finished "The Slippery Slope", and didn't have much to do since I hadn't brought the next book with me. It's just a silly sketch of Olaf and Esme (though after reading the last book, perhaps she wasn't the most appropriate person there......) I had fun fitting in all those eyes! Normally I wouldn't post something like this, but I just joined an ASoUE club on here, and I'm eager to join their community by posting!

and....if you read the series and want to discuss, please note! I need an outlet!

I really like this, that series popped into my head just as I looked at it without reading the description. I remember when those books got popular, I didnt realize just why because I'd picked it up at a Walmart looking for something to read and unfortunately I pick by covers usually. This ended well though and I guess I picked it when it was getting popular and didnt realize?
You captured the two characters well and I love all the eyes probably the most out of everything, making each one different in shape and size makes it fabulous!

I used to adore this series. :D It's so interesting and multilayered.

Anyway, I'm really lovin' Olaf's chair. And his expression. Actually, I love the whole thing! <333

Don't even think about touching this. Isn't that what it says on the picture of your crotch at the free clinic?

I should really read that series... I haven't read something good for a LONG time!

Stop-motion movie? YESSSSS!

A vanishing speck in those inane dominions,
Single and frail, uncertain of her place.
Alone in the bright host of her companions,
Lost in the blue unfriendliness of space.

you should, you should! I remember reading the majority of the series when I was younger, and thinking it was really interesting, but not much else.
But when I finished re-reading the series (except the last two books, which I read fo the first time) a few days ago, I was just awe-struck! When you're a little older, there's so much more depth to them! Just a fantastic series.
